Summer brings with it the harsh Sun. Sun exposure causes tanning of the skin, hastens ageing of the skin. Our skin needs to be pampered during the summer months to maintain the skin health.
Here are a few tips on looking after the skin this summer
1. Sunscreen: Use a sunscreen of spf 15 or more. The sunscreen has to be applied generously about 20-30 mins before going out in the sun. The sunscreen gets wiped off the face every 2 hours, so carry some cleansing facewipes and a pack of sunscreen in your bag to cleanse the face and re-apply a layer of sunscreen every 2 hours.
2. Cleansing, toning and moisturizing: This should be a regular part of skin care routine every night.
Cleansing: Apply cleansing milk all over face, wait for 5 mins for the milk to soak up the dirt and grime, take some cotton wool, soak it in water and squeeze it, then take off the excess cleansing milk from the face.
Toning: Use a toner every night. Take some toner on some cottonwool, cleanse it off your face using slow gentle motions.
Moisturising: Use a moisturizer that suits your skin. During summers, you usually require smaller amounts of moisturizer. The moisturizer needs to feel light on the skin and at the same time, the skin should not feel tight.
3. Hydration: Looking after the skins hydration is important during the summer months. Drink about 8-10 glasses of water a day. It helps to start the day with a glass of lemon water. This not only hydrates the skin from inside out, but also acts as a powerful detox agent by flushing out the impurities from the skin.
4. Scrubbing: Using a gentle scrub like an apricot scrub every 3 days will take off the superficial dead layer of skin leaving behind fresher skin which can then breathe more easily.
5. Beat the Stress: Stress plays havoc with the skin. It has however unfortunately become a part of modern day life. Stress busters like yoga, breathing exercise can help improve skin health and overall wellbeing.
6. Sleep: Atleast 6-8 hours of sleep are required to refresh the skin and all the body systems.
7. Avoid Smoking, alcohol, excessive caffeinated drinks like coffee, fizzy drinks etc. to avoid accelerated skin ageing.
